A high-speed chase through Pearl River County ended when the suspect crashed his motorcycle into a fence while attempting to elude deputies.

Pearl River County Sheriff’s Department Chief Deputy Shane Tucker said that the incident occurred Monday night just as deputies were setting up a driver’s license checkpoint. At 11:42 p.m. deputies finished setting up the checkpoint on Henleyfield McNeill Road near Rock Ranch Road when they saw two motorcycles approach before turning around in an alleged attempt to avoid the checkpoint.

One of the deputies attempted to conduct a stop on the motorcycles, but they both fled and then split up.

The deputy followed the one without a working headlight, eventually ending up in some residential areas of the city of Poplarville before heading down Highway 53. Tucker said that during the chase speeds reached 120 miles per hour.

While traveling down Highway 53, the rider of the motorcycle, identified as 25-year-old Allen Michael Arnold of 205 Douglas Dr., River Ridge, La., lost control and left the road before traveling through a ditch and striking a fence.

Tucker said the chase lasted about 16 minutes.

Arnold suffered an injury to his arm that may have involved a broken bone.

He was transported to Forrest General Hospital in Hattiesburg for treatment of that injury and his 1999 Honda 600 was towed to a wrecker yard.

Tucker said Arnold’s injuries did not appear to be life threatening.

A warrant will be issued for Arnold’s arrest for felony eluding law enforcement and citations will be issued for no headlight, no insurance, no driver’s license, no motorcycle endorsement, switched tag and no tag, Tucker said.

That warrant will be served once Arnold leaves the hospital.
