Detectives and officers with the Picayune Police Department arrested two suspects in two cases recently; one was arrested for allegedly stealing a bicycle from a local retailer by riding it out of an emergency exit and the second involved the suspect mistakenly offering a narcotics detective marijuana via text message.

The case worked on March 7, was of a Picayune man who rode a bicycle out of the local Walmart through the west facing emergency exit.

Assistant Police Chief Dustin Moeller said the department received a call about the incident at 5:14 that morning concerning a man later identified as Logan Raymurhreee Stockstill, 31 of 117 Elmer Jackson Rd., Carriere. Other items were allegedly taken by Stockstill at the same time, totaling $465 in merchandise. Some of the items included socks, AAA batteries and a pen light, the arrest report states.

Officers arrived and spoke with loss prevention staff at the retailer and got the last known direction Stockstill was seen heading. Another officer headed in the opposite direction down Stafford Road and found Stockstill still riding the bike along Robert Road. When the officer attempted to stop Stockstill, he ditched the bike and fled on foot, Moeller said.

The officer gave chase on foot, jumping a barbed wire fence and entering the property of the Mississippi  Welcome Center, where the foot chase continued until Stockstill was taken into custody for shoplifting. All of the stolen items were recovered and returned to the retailer, Moeller said.

A separate case worked the day before began when a narcotics detective received a text message at 9:48 a.m. asking the commander if he would be interested in receiving marijuana, Moeller said.

Investigation into the number determined it belonged to 25-year-old Deronte Deshaun Magee. Moeller said the narcotics commander and patrol officers set up a time to meet with Magee at his home located at 121 Greenview Dr. When they arrived at the home, they saw Magee standing outside. As the detectives and officers attempted to speak with Magee, he fled inside the home and locked the door, Moeller said.

Picayune Police Department personnel breached the door and took Magee into custody before obtaining a search warrant for the home. In that search, the detectives and officers found several clear bags containing a green leafy substance suspected to be marijuana along with a number of hand-rolled brown cigars containing a similar green leafy substance. Moeller said Magee was taken into custody for conspiracy to transfer a controlled substance within 1,500 feet of a school or church.
