With the August 6 primary looming closer, a number of candidates have qualified to maintaining their current office or unseat the incumbent.

The qualifying deadline was Friday, March 1.

All five members of the Pearl River County Board of Supervisors have qualified for reelection and all five will face opposition.

In District 1, incumbent Donald Hart (D) will be opposed by Jimmy Dale Buckley (I) and Russell Foster (R).

In District 2, incumbent Malcolm Perry (R) will be opposed by Ernie Clark (R) and John Stringer (D).

In District 3, incumbent Hudson Holliday (R) will be opposed by Rene M. “Trey” Galmiche (R) and Carl Ladner (R).

In District 4, incumbent Farron Moeller (R) will be opposed by Kathy Fayard Aden (R), Joseph A. Nix (R), Paul Reese (R), and Jason Spence (R).

In District 5, incumbent Sandy Kane Smith will be opposed by Richard L. Crawford (R) and Adam Spiers (R).

The Chancery Clerk race will include incumbent Melinda Bowman (R) and Lisa Graves (R).

The Circuit Clerk race will see incumbent Nance Fitzpatrick Stokes (R) run against Tony Bounds (R).

In the sheriff’s race, incumbent David Allison (R) will run against John “Tank” Herring (I).

In the race for tax assessor/collector, incumbent Gary Beech (R) will be opposed by Hannah Breland (R).

In the Justice Court Judge North race is Ben Breland (R), Trent Boyd (R), Max Hardberger (R), Larry Head (R), and Joe Smith (I).

Justice Court Judge Southeast will include incumbent

Donald Fail (R) and Jim Gray (R).

In the race for prosecuting attorney, incumbent Mike Patten (R) will compete with Gerald Patch.

Constable North incumbent Danny Joe Slade (R) will face opposition from Joe Garcia (R).

Constable Southeast incumbent Ray Bennett (R) will be opposed by Larry “Dusty” Dillard (R) and Shane Edgar (R).

Three of the local incumbent office holders will not face opposition on the August ballot. They are Constable Southwest Jason Hunt (R), Coroner Derek Turnage (R) and Justice Court Judge Southwest John Mark Mitchell (R).

Voters must be registered by July 8 at 5 p.m. and mail registration applications must be post-marked no later than the same day.
