Picayune native dies in one vehicle accident

A Picayune native died in a vehicle collision with a tree Saturday night near the Alabama state line.

According to information provided by the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency, Highway Patrol Division Troop A, the collision occurred Saturday evening at about 6:15 when a 2013 Nissan Altima left the roadway and struck a tree.

The collision occurred south of Tanner Williams Road.

The driver of the vehicle, identified as 40-year-old Tabatha Smith of Lucedale, died at the scene as a result of blunt force trauma sustained in the collision, the release states. She was not wearing a seatbelt, according to the release.

According to an obituary from McDonald Funeral Home, Smith was a native of Picayune who had been living in Hurley for about six years.
