Some people tend to perceive things that are wrong in society, acknowledge it, and do nothing to change it. Thankfully for Picayune and Pearl River County residents, Christy Goss is not one of those people. As the mother of 2 young ladies, she recognized the need of positive role models in this ever changing culture. In response she  began the “Love Your Selfie” campaign to meet that challenge. The Rotary Club of Picayune is also a sponsor of the effort.

The third annual “#Love Your Selfie” is set for Feb. 23 at 10 a.m. at the Senior Center of South Pearl River County, located at 45 El Patch Parkway in Picayune. All young ladies attending grades 6th through 12th are encouraged to attend. Girls from all the area’s schools as well as home schoolers are welcome. This free event has gained in popularity each year, and this year’s event is shaping up to be the best yet, Goss said.

At 10:00 a.m. young ladies from the area will model the year’s hottest fashions from Dash Forward Boutique. Following the fashion show, a photo booth will be available for the girls to kick back and have some fun with their friends. Add live music, lunch catered by Paul’s Pastry, goody bags, door prizes, and a fantastic inspirational speaker to the mix and this event promises to be a good time, Goss said..

Amanda Clementi, local Rodan and Fields representative and mother of three, will be speaking about the scars everyone carries and what to do about them.

“The topic of scars was chosen because everyone has scars. They can be internal or external, but they don’t have to define us in a negative way. They can actually be a positive in our lives because once a wound is healed the scar can make us stronger,” said Goss.

Not only is this event free and open to all young ladies in the area, but also transportation will be provided if necessary. To reserve transportation, give Goss a call at (601) 798- 9079 or contact Rotary of Picayune via Facebook.

Goss began her career as a dental assistant. In that capacity, her priority was to give her patients comfort and peace of mind. In this phase of her life she gained the people skills necessary to move to her next position as Grant Administrator for the city of Picayune. Goss has been with the city for the past 7 years and wears a number of hats. She loves promoting Picayune.

According to Goss, “The many people involved in the “#Love Your Selfie” program would like to instill in the young ladies to be who they are and love who they are. I feel like your world is what you make it. If you want to be positive, happy, and successful then you will be. The women who have come before us have accomplished so much so we need to continue striving to be all we can be.”
