Joel P. Benefield

Joel P. Benefield, age 73, passed away peacefully at his home in Picayune, Mississippi on Tuesday, January 29, 2019. A native of New Orleans, Louisiana, Joel was born on December 28, 1945 to the late Henry P. Benefield and Marjorie May Gastauer.

He is survived by his loving wife of 31 years, Linda D. Benefield; his children, Sean Benefield (Christiane), Joel S. Benefield (Scott), Anthony Green Jr. (Clair) and Melissa Green (Rodney); his grandchildren, Bryce, Noah, Sophia and Ava; his sisters, Julie Tassin, Ester North (Bruce), Mary Martin (Dennis) and Hope Benefield (Chris); brothers, Trey Benefield (Gail) and Brian Benefield (Lisa); as well as numerous nieces and nephews.  He is preceded in death by his parents and his brother, George Benefield.

Joel established a lifelong career in telecommunications beginning in 1966 and will forever be remembered for his intellect, kind and compassionate disposition, engaging sense of humor and strong work ethic. He had a true green thumb and thoroughly enjoyed time spent on his farm in Picayune, MS, watching his beloved Tigers fight for victory and spending time with friends and family. Joel will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral services held in the chapel at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd in New Orleans, Louisiana on Monday, February 4, 2019 at 2:00 PM. Visitation will begin at 11:00 AM. Interment will follow in All Saints Mausoleum.
