Funeral services for Ernestine B. Evans, 87, of Rose Hill, MS, will be held today, Saturday, January 26, 2019 at noon at East Galilee Missionary Baptist Church in Rose Hill, MS.  The pastor, Reverend Spencer Richardson, Sr. will officiate at the service.

Mother Ernestine, “Ernie” transitioned on January 19, 2019 from her earthly home to her new home in “A city which hath foundations, whose builder and maker is God.”  Her strong and abiding faith in God sustained her during times of turmoil and ultimately gave her sweet rest embraced by her loving and devoted niece, Mrs. Barbara McGrew.

Aunt Ernie was born to the late Tump and Martha Goins Bradley, a farmer and a homemaker respectively, in Rose Hill, Jasper County, Mississippi on November 28, 1931.  As was customary, she was given the nickname “Teaner” and to many she is still Teaner.   

In her youth she was taught the necessity of knowing God as Lord and Savior and united with Galilee Missionary Baptist Church, Rose Hill, MS.

After graduation from high school, she moved to Welch, West Virginia seeking better job opportunities.  She later moved to New York.  Her work history consists of domestic worker, medical assistant at Long Island Jewish Hospital, New Hyde Park, NY.

Throughout her life, she maintained a sweet and simple demeanor that won the trust and hearts of many.  Possessing a true servant’s heart, Aunt Ernie faithfully cared for family and friends.  She loved people and sought to help them.  She loved God and sought to please Him. Her ease in conversation, even with total strangers, allowed her to encourage and counsel many.  Her signature smile will never be forgotten.

April 15, 1989, Miss Ernestine became the bride of Reverend Jessie Evans, Pastor of Christian Light Missionary Baptist Church, Long Beach, NY.  She ministered faithfully both to him and God’s people.

Forever the family advocate, she returned to Mississippi with one purpose in mind;  To take care of her oldest sister, Sister Louella Sanders.  She re-united with East Galilee Missionary Baptist Church.  Great was her faithfulness to God and the East Galilee Church Family. The visitation will be held at the church one hour prior to the service. 

The interment will be in East Galilee Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery.
