New Orleans man dies in multi-vehicle collision that included Picayune driver

=A New Orleans man passed away due to injuries sustained in a multivehicle collision that occurred on Interstate 10 in Slidell, La.

According to a release from the Louisiana State Police, Troop L., the accident occurred at about 11:40 a.m. Friday, December 21. Troopers responded to the crash on Interstate 10 near Old Spanish Trail in St. Tammany Parish. 

The collision resulted in the death of 64-year-old Guy P. Charleville of New Orleans, the release states.

Investigation by the responding Troopers determined the crash occurred as 66-year-old David M. Picone of Slidell was driving a 2011 Honda Accord eastbound on Interstate 10 in the center lane.  A 2009 Chevrolet Malibu, driven by 26-year-old Aaron Nathaniel Lee of Picayune, was also eastbound on Interstate 10 in the left lane, passing Picone’s Accord.  As Lee’s vehicle passed, Picone merged into the left lane striking the right front of the Malibu, causing both vehicles to exit the left side of the roadway.  Picone’s vehicle traveled through the median and into the westbound lanes of Interstate 10, striking a 2019 Volkswagen Jetta, driven by 48-year-old Dena Kabala of Brigantine, NJ.   

Picone was transported to University Medical Center-New Orleans, where he was treated for moderate injuries.  A passenger in Picone’s vehicle, Charleville, was transported to Ochsner Medical Center – North Shore, where he died as a result of injuries sustained in the crash, the release states. Kabala was also transported to University Medical Center-New Orleans, where she was treated for moderate injuries. Lee was uninjured in the crash.

As part of the ongoing investigation, Lee provided Troopers with a voluntary breath sample, which showed no amount of alcohol present.  Blood samples were collected from Picone and Kabala and they will be sent to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis.
