Man arrested for possessing drugs

A Picayune man was arrested for drug related offenses after refusing to cooperate with officer requests.

On Nov. 24, an officer on patrol saw two suspicious individuals walking down a street where vehicle burglaries had recently occurred, according to departmental reports. The officer conducted a stop and spoke with two men. While trying to speak to the men, one of them began to walk away from the officer, later identified as Brandon Carl Holloway, 27, of 1516 S. Grady Ave., the report states.

As the officer attempted to catch up to Holloway, he observed the suspect throw a cigarette pack and a separate package to the ground that was later determined to contain synthetic marijuana, the report states.

The officer then caught up with Holloway and attempted to take him into custody for littering, but Holloway resisted, prompting the officer to put him to the ground in an attempt to detain the suspect, the report states.

A second officer arrived on scene to assist in the arrest of Holloway for littering and disorderly conduct failure to comply. While searching Holloway, the officer found plastic straws that investigative techniques determined had been used in the consumption of narcotics, The synthetic marijuana previously discarded by Holloway had been acquired by the second officer, the release states. Inside the discarded cigarette pack the officer found about half a gram of a substance suspected to be heroin. The officer then additionally arrested Holloway for felony possession of a controlled substance, misdemeanor possession of a controlled substance and tampering with physical evidence.
