In the race for U.S. Senate Mike Espy is running against Cindy Hyde-Smith.

Pearl River County Circuit Court Clerk Nance Stokes said that voters can submit an absentee ballot on Saturday, Nov. 24, until noon. Absentee ballots that will be mailed in should be received in her office by 5 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 26.

Stokes said that absentee ballots that were requested to be mailed to a voter’s home were mailed out by her office on Nov. 17, a day after the state certified the results from the Nov. 6 election.

She said it took so long to certify those results because there were voters who had to vote via affidavit ballot, and they had until 5 p.m. on Nov. 14 to show proper identification at her office for the vote to be counted, or five business days as outlined by state law.

Stokes also addressed rumors that some ballots within the Pearl River County School District did not show candidates running for District 1 and 2 for seats on the School District’s Board of Trustees.

She said those voters did not see Districts 1 or 2 on their ballot because they live in one of the other districts, which did not have candidates running for those offices.

Registered voters can cast their ballot for the two races Tuesday, Nov. 27, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. at their proper precinct, which can be found on the voter’s registration card, or by calling the Circuit Clerk’s office at 601-403-2300.
