According to a press release from the Mississippi Highway Patrol, a one vehicle accident along Interstate 10 at the 8 mile marker in Hancock County resulted in the death of one passenger.

The release states that the accident occurred Saturday at about 4:30 that afternoon when an eastbound 2015 Toyota 4 Runner, driven by 34-year-old Shea D. Lightfoot of Atlanta, Ga. lost control of the vehicle and left the road for an unknown reason before entering the median.

After entering the median, the vehicle struck a culvert, causing the vehicle to flip several times before entering the tree line.

Of the six passengers in the vehicle, three were ejected during the crash, the release states.

One of the occupants, 36-year-old Christian Gilliard, of Austell, Ga., was pronounced at Hancock Medical Center due to injuries she sustained.

Lightfoot and four other occupants of the vehicle were transported to nearby hospitals for treatment, the release states.
