Woman dies in one vehicle accident

A Moselle, Miss., woman died in a one vehicle accident Thursday morning when the vehicle she was riding in left the road and collided with a tree in the median of Interstate 59.

According to a release from the Mississippi Highway Patrol, the accident occurred at about 5 a.m. Thursday at about the 27 mile marker of Interstate 59.

Emergency personnel arrived to find that a 2016 Chevrolet Tahoe driven by 59-year-old Jeffrey Hinton of Moselle, was southbound on the interstate when the driver overcorrected to avoid tire tread in the roadway, left the roadway, entered the median and crashed into a tree. After the vehicle collided with the tree, it overturned, coming to rest on the driver’s side.

Arlene D. Lawrence-Hinton, 59, of Moselle, was in the front passenger seat of the vehicle. She was pronounced at the scene, the release states.

The driver and three occupants in the vehicle, an 11-year-old female and two 17-year-old females, were transported to Forrest General Hospital for treatment of moderate injuries. The release states that every person in the vehicle was restrained and airbags in the vehicle deployed during the accident.

It appears the family was en route to the airport in New Orleans at the time of the accident. The driver was the stepfather of the family, while the front seat passenger was the mother to the juveniles in the vehicle, the release states.
