Blue Devils drop shootout to Wayne County

Carriere—— Pearl River Central’s Blue Devils lost a hard fought contest to the Wayne County War Eagles Friday, 53-41.

The Blue Devils fell to a record of 2-4 and now have a district record of 1-1.

Wayne County would get the scoring started when quarterback ZhaKerreun Wesley dashed into the end zone on a 62 yard run with 7 minutes left in the first quarter to make the score 6-0.

PRC wouldn’t take long to respond, marching down the field for 91 yards on just 5 plays to score a touchdown from running back Ryan Spradley on a 4 yard run.

Sam Lambert’s PAT was good to give PRC a 7-6 lead.

Kobe Whitehead would cruise into the end zone on a 69 yard touchdown run.

Lambert would make the score 14-6 PRC.

Wayne County would counter with a quick drive at the start of the second quarter to make the score 14-12.

PRC would have to punt on their ensuing drive and Wayne County would take advantage with another quick drive to take a 19-14 lead.

The Blue Devils would counter in just three plays with a 36 yard run from Ryan Spradley.

Spradley added the two point conversion to make it 22-19.

Wayne County would punch back and regain the lead with a 34 yard touchdown pass and score again on their next drive on 73 yard touchdown pass with just over 3 minutes left in the first half to make the score 33-22.

The Blue Devils would respond in the beginning of the second half with time consuming 10-play 75-yard drive that was capped with a 1-yard touchdown run by Whitehead making the score 33-28.

The War Eagles would respond with a 12-yard touchdown run making it a 40-28 game.

PRC would once again have a long time consuming drive with 11 plays that went for 61 yards.

Whitehead scored on a 1 yard run making it 40-35 with 8:15 left in the game.

It only took Wayne County 4 plays to respond as they capped off their drive with a 9 yard touchdown run to make it 46-35.

PRC wouldn’t be done however as they marched 73 yards in 12 plays.

Whitehead punched it in for a 12 yard touchdown run with 3:36 left.

Wayne County would counter with a 44 yard touchdown run to end the scoring for the night.

PRC had three running backs rush for over a 100 yards, Whitehead with 214, Ronald Murray with 127, and Ryan Spradley with 123.
