A bed and breakfast just outside of Picayune will open its doors next week to the traveling public, offering a quiet place to relax close to New Orleans and the Mississippi Gulf Coast.

Deanna Bernard has named her bed and breakfast Picayune Proper.

“The Proper,” as Bernard affectionately calls it, will officially open its doors with a ribbon cutting held by the Greater Picayune Area Chamber of Commerce on Oct. 1 starting at 11 a.m.

During the ribbon cutting, she will hold a drawing for a two-night stay that will include a continental breakfast.

Bernard said her continental breakfasts will consist of locally grown fruit and she will make her own fresh muffins.

Bagels will also be served.

If her guests require, she can act as their personal chef.

Otherwise, guests have access to the kitchen.

Bernard said she started the business so she will have something to do when she retires from her current job as a certified event planner in the New Orleans area.

She sees the new venture as not only a place for travelers to find a quiet place to stay for a couple of nights, but it could also serve as a venue for birthday parties, weddings or even fundraisers.

And since the bed and breakfast is located on three acres of land outside of the city limits, Bernard said the guests can enjoy the less restrictive aspect of staying in a bed and breakfast along with the views of the sky at night and walking trails through the adjacent woods.

She plans to run the business with some help from her granddaughter, Victoria Blancaneaux, and some other individuals who will help with maintenance of the home and the grounds as needed.

Within the 2,100-square-feet of the home, guests can choose from the master suite complete with a private bathroom for $159 per night with a minimum of a two-night stay, or one of the upstairs suites, called Victoria and Beau, for $99 per night with a two-night minimum.

Guests may also choose to rent the entire home for $500 per night with a two-night minimum.

In addition to offering Internet access, cable television, space for RV parking, and a fire pit in the backyard, Picayune Proper prides itself on being pet friendly, accommodating pets up to 25 pounds.

There is also a fenced in area of the yard for the pets to get some exercise.

Picayune Proper can be found at 286 Magnolia Drive or reached by phone at 601-749-4732.
