Reports of illegal drug activity led to the arrest of two people by the Pearl River County Sheriff’s Department.

Sheriff David Allison said that on Aug. 6, narcotics detectives received information that 32-year-old Robert Labell Smith of 852 Liberty Road had heroin in his home. The detectives went to his home to check on the complaint and spoke with Smith, who appeared to be heavily sedated or under the influence of opiates, Allison said.

During their conversation, the detectives noticed three syringes in plain view within the home, allegedly loaded with a liquid suspected to be heroin, the sheriff said.

Smith was arrested for possession of heroin and the syringes were confiscated and sent to the Mississippi Crime Lab for analysis.

The next day, on Aug. 7, narcotics detectives with the Sheriff’s Department and the Picayune Police Department served a search warrant at a home located at 69 A. Tin Hill Dr., Carriere. The warrant was secured based on community complaints that drug activity was occurring at the home, Allison said. During the search of the home, a felony amount of marijuana, digital scales, marijuana wax, THC laced candy and paraphernalia associated with the distribution of marijuana was recovered from within the home, Allison said. The resident of the home, Travis Landry, 27, was arrested for possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, Allison said.
