As part of the Navy’s community outreach program, enlisted personnel who were recently promoted to chief petty officer made a visit to the Crosby Arboretum to help with some regular maintenance Saturday morning.

Senior Chief James Burnett said the work started about a week prior, when the volunteers scraped the gates at the front entrance to prepare them for painting that took place on Saturday. The volunteers also helped clear paths of overgrown branches in the local attraction.

Burnett said the effort is part of the Navy’s community outreach efforts. When personnel are promoted to the rank of chief petty officer, they look for opportunities to help out in the community.

Other community efforts by these men and women included conducting cleanup efforts in Biloxi at the cemetery and along the Biloxi beach.
