A 20-year-old man was killed after being struck by an Amtrak train Monday morning while walking along the railroad tracks.

Pearl River County Coroner Derek Turnage said the man was identified as 20-year-old Colton Wayne Hall of 1085 River Road, Nicholson.

Hall passed away after being struck from behind by the train, which was carrying passengers. The accident occurred just south of Jackson Landing Road near Allison RV Park at about 8:30 a.m.

While the cause of the accident is still under investigation, Turnage said he suspects Hall was listening to headphones and was unable to hear the train coming.

Turnage would like to remind pedestrians that is it illegal to walk on railroad tracks, which are private property.
