During Tuesday’s brief meeting before the Fourth of July holiday, city officials took a moment to recognize the recent awards it received.

Mayor Ed Pinero said the awards came from the Mississippi Main Street Association and the Mississippi Municipal League, both recognizing the city’s commitment to beautification for the development of Crosby Commons. Both awards were issued during the respective events last week.

City Manager Jim Luke also received the Hometown Hero award from the Mississippi Main Street Association for his efforts to beautify the city, according to previous coverage.

Picayune Main Street President Bill Edwards presented Luke with a plaque for receiving the Main Street award during the Council meeting.

Crosby Commons was recognized by Mississippi Main Street Association for being an Outstanding Public Improvement Project.

It was also recognized last week by the Mississippi Municipal League with the Municipal Excellence Award in the Planning and Economic Development category, Pinero said.

Large signs commemorating those awards were temporarily staged in the Council Chambers prior to the meeting.

Pinero took a moment to thank Public Works Director Eric Morris and his employees for their hard work in receiving the awards, since it was their efforts that resulted in Crosby Commons being constructed.

In other news, the Council:

— Approved setting a public hearing concerning property clean up at 10 locations.

— Approved a request to assess tax liens in the Pearl River County Tax Collector’s office and a lien in the Pearl River County Circuit Clerk’s office for parcels not listed on the agenda.

— Approved two T-hanger lease agreements, one between the city and Philip Flint and another between the city and Murnel Babneaux.

The next Council meeting will be July 17 at 5 p.m. in the Council Chambers.
