The Rotary Club of Poplarville recently made a donation of $600 worth of supplies to the National Guard’s 155th Armored Brigade Combat Team Bravo Company.

Rotary Club of Poplarville President Jennifer Seal said the supplies will be shipped to the unit during its deployment to the Central Command Theater based in Kuwait.

Seal said Rotary members decided to donate supplies to the men and women after Sheila Smith, family support advocate and mother of a unit member, spoke to the club about the increasing need for supplies during the mission.

Some of the supplies to be donated include sheets, undershirts, snacks and toiletries, Seal said.

Seal said this is the first time the Rotary Club of Poplarville has been able to support local service men and women who volunteer to safeguard the lives of American citizens.

Smith said her son and other soldiers have found the availability of the items donated to be hard to procure while deployed.

She said a lot of the soldiers do not have families who can send them supplies so this was an ideal opportunity to help out.

Smith said all four of her sons are either serving in the military or have served in the past, and donations like the one being provided by the local Rotary club and community members are appreciated.

In March, 135 members of Poplarville’s 155th Bravo Company were deployed to Fort Bliss in Texas to join other guardsmen across the state for training before eventual deployment, previous coverage states.
