Two cases recently worked by the Pearl River County Sheriff’s Department resulted in the arrest of three people for various offenses.

On March 19, a stop was conducted on a 2002 Yukon for careless driving after the deputy saw the vehicle cross the yellow line at Fourth Street and Highway 11 in Picayune, Allison said.

During the stop, the deputy identified 41-year-old Carlos Bolar of 152 Greenview Dr., as the driver, and asked for consent to search the vehicle, but it was denied, Allison said.

As the deputy awaited results from a search of Bolar’s record from the National Crime Information Center, back up arrived in the form of a K-9 unit. Allison said that the canine later alerted on the vehicle, giving the deputies probable cause to conduct a search, where cocaine was located under the cup holder of the vehicle along with a set of brass knuckles. As a result of the findings, Bolar was arrested for possession of cocaine and possession of a weapon by a convicted felon, the sheriff said.

That same day, narcotics detectives and criminal investigation detectives followed up on an unrelated investigation at a home located at 106 River Rd., in Nicholson. Allison said that when the detectives arrived at the home they spoke with a man, who identified himself with a false name, and a female counterpart.

Investigation into the man’s identity determined his name was actually Stephen Burch, 45, and the woman was identified as 37-year-old Lisa Taylor. Both claimed to be homeless.

Allison said that the detectives checked their records, determining both suspects were wanted out of Arkansas for fleeing law enforcement and out of Tennessee for credit card fraud.

Both suspects were allegedly living out of a camper trailer parked at the address, which was later determined to have been stolen out of Picayune. The Picayune Police Department was later notified and came to recover the stolen property.

During a search of Burch’s vehicle, pieces of mail tying Burch to a burglary in Pearl River County were found. Both suspects were taken into custody for the holds out of the other two jurisdictions and Burch was additionally arrested for the theft of the travel trailer and for burglary, Allison said.
