Pearl River County School Board recognizes Parents of the Year

The Pearl River County School Board of Trustees recognized this year’s Parents of the Year during the Board’s monthly meeting Thursday afternoon.

Superintendent Alan Lumpkin and Student Board Representative Doc Herrin presented each winner with a certificate once their names were called.

Elizabeth Hart was named Parent of the Year at Pearl River Central Lower Elementary. Lumpkin said Hart received the award for her continuing assistance to the Parent Teacher Organizations. She is also known to regularly provide assistance in classrooms or anywhere help is needed.

Kristen Williams was named Parent of the Year at Pearl River Central Upper Elementary. Lumpkin said Williams is a team player who regularly helps with the school’s Scholastic Book Fair and Santa’s Secret Shop.

“…she’s always willing to do anything to support our student’s with a warm smile and great attitude,” Lumpkin added.

At Pearl River Central Middle School, Laura Werner was chosen due to her volunteer work and assistance in organizing other support from parents and volunteers. He also said that Werner’s help has made the middle school a better place.

The District named Rhonda Gibbs as the Pearl River Central High School’s Parent of the Year and also the PRC School District’s Parent of the Year.

“She is the president of our NJROTC Booster Club and she plays a crucial role in the coordination of our fundraising efforts,” Lumpkin said. “From organizing a yard sale to helping with the Winter Ball, she does a great job.”

In other business, the Board approved increasing the cost of  student meals for students between sixth and 12th grade for the 2018-2019 school year. The new price will entail a 10 cent raise from $2.50 to $2.60.
