During Monday’s Pearl River County Board of Supervisors meeting county engineer Les Dungan presented the Board with suggested changes to the county’s sub-division regulations to make them more suitable for Pearl River County.

County Administrator Adrian Lumpkin said the county’s subdivision regulations were established in 1965 and were later updated in 1998.

“We are under the regulations that were adopted in 1998. The Board wants to review the regulations since (they’re) almost 20-years-old and look and see if anything about these regulations needs to be updated or changed,” Lumpkin said.

Lumpkin said revisiting the regulations would ensure that potential buyers have adequate access to the property.

Dungan said the regulations are intended to help govern the development of property in the county.

“I’ve suggested the Board correct some of the initial changes in ambiguity and certain typographical errors in the current regulations as immediate amendments and probably later on we can look into more changes,” Dungan said.

The Board plans to conduct a workshop on Feb. 13 at 9 a.m. in the courthouse on Julia Street in Poplarville to further discuss sub-division regulations and other matters with the road department.

Also during the meeting, the Board discussed establishing an economic development organization that will be dedicated to promoting Pearl River County to attract more businesses.

Lumpkin said the Board is still in the discussion stages on the matter.

“If we don’t promote ourselves nobody else will…” Lumpkin said.
