An accident that occured Friday afternoon resuled in the death of 79-year-old Robert C. Guthrie of Picayune.

According to a release from the Mississippi Highway Patrol, the a fatal crash in Pearl River County occurred on Highway 43 in the northbound lane near Salem Road, at approximately 2:40 p.m.

 When emergency personnel arrived, the initial investigation showed that  a 42-year-old female was traveling south on Highway 43 in a 2006 Nissan Altima and attempted to make a left turn onto Salem Road. As her vehicle entered the northbound lane, it crashed into the front driver’s side of a northbound 1996 Ford F-150 driven by Guthrie. The Ford overturned and came to rest on Highway 43 after the collision.

Guthrie was pronounced at the scene. His cause of death is being listed as due to  injuries sustained in the crash. The driver of the Nissan had no reported injuries. Both drivers were wearing seatbelts.
