Two Picayune citizens were arrested by narcotics detectives with the Picayune Police Department after they attempted to elude officers and one of the suspects allegedly pointed a gun at one of the detectives, according to a departmental release.

The incident occurred on Jan. 9 at about 6:23 p.m., when detectives observed a eastbound vehicle on Memorial Boulevard with a broken tag light and occupied by a driver and passenger not wearing seat belts.

After attempting to conduct a traffic stop, the driver of the vehicle refused to stop and continued east on Memorial Boulevard until the vehicle was blocked by traffic at the intersection of Highway 43 South and Frontage Road, the release states.

As detectives approached the vehicle they came in contact with the driver, Michael Nolf, 27, of 167 Blue Bird Lane, and the passenger, Sheridan Barnes, 23, of 25 Dawn Millis Rd.

The release states that as Nolf exited the vehicle, Barnes pointed a .22 caliber Ruger at one of the detectives. Detectives were able to disarm Barnes before arresting her for attempted aggravated assault on a police officer. The release states the firearm was loaded and had a bullet in the chamber.

Detectives later learned Nolf did not have a valid driver’s license or insurance and that he had allegedly handed Barnes the firearm during the stop. Nolf is also a convicted felon, the release states.

Detectives then searched the vehicle and found items commonly used to manufacture crystal methamphetamine, the release states. The search also located a digital scale, lighter fluid, sulfuric acid, several lithium batteries, hydrochloric acid and a damaged plastic bottle wrapped in electrical tape, the release states.

Detectives also found several clear plastic bags, a crossbow and pieces of aluminum foil, which is often used to package heroin and crystal methamphetamine, the release states.

The detectives also seized $1,214 due to its proximity to the narcotics.

Nolf was charged with two counts of possession of a weapon by a convicted felon, possession of precursor chemicals, tampering with physical evidence, possession of paraphernalia,  no insurance, no driver’s license, two counts of no seatbelt, improper equipment and failure to yield when officer signals, the release states. Barnes was charged with possession of paraphernalia and possession of precursor chemicals.
