The city of Picayune would like to take this opportunity to update you on preparations being put in place ahead of the wintery weather event which will be approaching later today and linger through tomorrow.

First and foremost, we would ask that you stay indoors and off the roadways if at all possible. Please make sure your neighbors and the elderly are taken care of, and take precautions with pets, plants and pipes.

City services will continue as long as weather permits.

City services/City Hall will delay opening on Wednesday, January 17, 2018 until 1 p.m.

Friendship Park will close this afternoon and will be closed tomorrow. It will reopen Thursday.

The City Council Meeting scheduled for tonight is still on schedule.

The Public Works Department will be pre-treating some elevated roadways this afternoon ahead of the wintry precipitation, and will continue to monitor road conditions throughout the evening.

While emergency response will continue throughout this wintery event, please be patient with the responders as it may take a few minutes more than normal to get to the emergency calls due to road conditions.

Again, please use caution on roadways if you have to travel. But, as previously stated, we would urge you to please stay off roadways.
