Picayune Main Street released this year’s collectible Christmas ornament and is encouraging the community to get their hands on one while supplies last.

This year’s ornament is based off “The Clock,” which was a service station, café and icehouse located on Highway 11 South for over 40 years. The café’s glass and brick facade and friendly ambience drew a lot of business from the late 1950’s through the 1970’s.

Picayune Main Street has annually offered an ornament based on the history of Picayune since 2000. Funds collected from the sale of the ornaments supports Main Street’s mission of revitalizing the downtown area and preserving Picayune’s history, Picayune Main Street Director, Reba Beebe said. Each year the Picayune Main Street Board accepts drawings and photographs from the community that represent any historic building or landmark in town. Members of the Board then select a submission based on its popularity, which is then made into an ornament. 

This year’s ornament was drawn by Picayune resident Robin Veerkamp.  Beebe said the ornament is priced at $15 and is selling fast, so people need to act quickly if they want to own a part of the town’s history.

Locally owned stores across town are also selling a limited set of all ornaments created since 2000 for $100.

The ornament is on sale at the Intermodal Transportation and Tourist Center, Glass Porch and Melinda’s Fine Gifts.
