Adopt a senior this year

The Senior Center of South Pearl River County will host its annual Adopt a Senior Snowflake event this holiday season.
Individuals and businesses can participate by adopting a senior citizen with a donation of a $25 gift card from either Walmart or a local drug store.
All donated gift cards will be given out to people in need, who are on a list created by the Senior Center. Individuals on the list have a low income or have more of a need compared to others.
To adopt a senior, simply drop off the gift card at the Senior Center, located at 45 El Patch Parkway behind Wal-Mart.
“People can also place the gift card inside a Christmas card and leave a message for the senior they will be adopting,” Administrative Assistant Mandy Boudreaux said. “We have had many people around the community participate in previous years, so I’m hoping for the same success this year.”
The final day to turn in a gift card is Friday, Dec. 22.
“This is a great way not just to help a senior citizen meet their basic needs but it also reminds them that the community cares for them during the holiday season,” Boudreaux said. “Many of the seniors may be unable to visit their relatives or might not have family to visit this holiday season and this gift will bring them a lot of happiness.”
