This year the focus is to increase participation from the community.

“We are asking the public to come out in support and honor of our troops and veterans,” said Tom Milar, Picayune code enforcement officer. “We are really hoping to witness a turnout similar to the one we see during the Christmas parade. I would love to see the public come out, say a big thank you to these veterans and take some candy from them.”

The parade will include antique military vehicles such as old jeeps and old military trucks from the Korean War, Vietnam War and the Cold War. Cadets from the Picayune Memorial High School NJROTC will also march in the parade.

Onlookers can expect performances by the Picayune Memorial High School band and the American Legion. Members of the Veterans of Foreign Wars will also be in the parade.

Decorated floats for the veterans to ride in, marching groups and horses will also participate.

Veterans Day is celebrated nationally every year on Nov. 11, which was originally known as Armistice Day, the day that fighting during World War I ended in 1918.

“I encourage all the people to come out, line the street and show complete solidarity for those who have dedicated their lives to the nation,” Milar said.
