Two arrested for drug related charges

An incident involving careless driving led to the arrest of a woman who had heroin in her possession, while a separate incident at a safety check point found a man in possession of methamphetamine.

An officer on patrol on Oct. 5 saw a vehicle being driven carelessly at a high rate of speed on Memorial Boulevard prompted the officer to catch up and speak with the driver, reports with the department state.

The officer identified the driver as 31-year-old Hali Lyn Thomas of 107 Stafford Dr., Slidell, La. While speaking with Thomas, the officer noticed she was nervous, leading to a search of her vehicle. In that search, the officer found a plastic bag containing a brown powdery substance suspected to be heroin, the report states

She was arrested for possession of a controlled substance and possession of paraphernalia and cited for speeding and careless driving.

A separate incident worked on Oct. 8, occurred at Highway 43 South near Stafford Road where officers were conducting a safety checkpoint. At that time, 33-year-old Shane Charles Bledsoe of 601 West Canal St. pulled up to the checkpoint and was asked for his driver’s license. The report states that Bledsoe provided the officer with a Louisiana identification card instead. An NCIC check determined his driver’s license was suspended, prompting the officer to ask him to exit the vehicle, the report states.

As Bledose got out of the car, the officer noticed a plastic bag fall to the ground, which was recovered and determined to contain a white crystal like substance suspected to be methamphetamine, the report states. Bledsoe was arrested for possession of a controlled substance, the report states.
