Saturday, the Modern Woodmen of America will honor the Pearl River County Sheriff’s Department as part of its “Honoring a Hometown Hero” program.

“For their service and dedication to protect the community, we will honor them with this much-deserved award,” southeast Louisiana/south Mississippi chapter representative Christopher Ferguson said.

The event will take place on McNeill Walking Trail in Carriere from 12 and 6 p.m. and will be free to the community; food and snacks will also be provided.

“There will be police cars on-site that kids can see up close, as well as the gear they use,” Ferguson said. “This is a perfect opportunity for the community to meet and interact with officers, so everyone is invited.”

The event will include a presentation by Ferguson and the Sheriff’s Department will be presented with an American flag.

According to its website, local Modern Woodmen members provide opportunities for members to take part in social and educational activities and volunteer projects to meet local needs.

“I’m excited for our first of many events in Pearl River County as I plan on hosting more events during the upcoming future,” Ferguson said.
