A Pearl River County Sheriff’s Department detective working a separate case arrested a woman wanted by the Mississippi Department of Corrections and found she was in possession of methamphetamine.

Sheriff David Allison said the incident occurred on Oct. 9, while the detective was conducting surveillance in relation to an unrelated case. At that time he noticed 27-year-old Summer Favre of 9 North Fork Dr., Carriere in the back seat of a vehicle that pulled into the parking lot of a nearby business.

Allison said the detective knew she was wanted by MDOC for absconding. While watching the vehicle, the deputy saw a man exit the vehicle, identified as 27-year-old Dakota Smith of 102 South Shivers St., Poplarville, who was also known to be wanted by MDOC for absconding, Allison said.

While taking Smith into custody, the detective found him to be in possession of a half an ounce of methamphetamine, leading to a search of the vehicle, Allison said. Inside the vehicle, the detective found several ounces of a substance used to cut methamphetamine for resale, a dirk knife and some syringes, the Sheriff said.

Smith was arrested for possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute, conspiracy to sell a controlled substance and probation violation, while Favre was arrested for conspiracy to sell a controlled substance, possession of a weapon by a convicted felon and probation violation, Allison said.

The sheriff said that Smith was additionally arrested for four counts of sale of methamphetamine in relation to a separate case that was underway.

After speaking with the driver of the vehicle, it was determined that he was not involved in the illegal activities and was only providing Smith and Favre a ride, so he was released at the scene.

A separate case worked on Oct. 16, led to the arrest of 59-year-old Rocky Simmons of 6880 Highway 11, Carriere. His arrest occurred after officers with the Mississippi Department of Corrections and Sheriff’s Department deputies went to his home to conduct a check. While speaking with Simmons, methamphetamine could be seen in plain view on the kitchen counter, resulting in a search of the home.

In that search a pill bottle containing oxycodone belonging to another individual was recovered, Allison said. Simmons was arrested for possession of methamphetamine, trafficking of a controlled substance and for a probation violation in relation to the drugs found during the check, Allison said.
