Investigators with the Pearl River County Sheriff’s Department arrested several suspects after checking into complaints of drug activity at a home.

Sheriff David Allison said the case was worked on Sept. 1, after the investigators received information that 54-year-old George Case of 138 Richardson Road and Joni Young, 33, of 31 Elmer Lee Road, were in possession of heroin at Case’s home.

Narcotics investigators and officers with the Mississippi Department of Corrections followed up on the complaint by going to the home. As they pulled up, officers saw 54-year-old Sherry Tomes of 562 White Chapel Rd., Carriere, walking away from the property. When she saw the officers approaching she threw a plastic bag to the ground, Allison said.

Officers secured Tomes and recovered the bag, finding heroin inside, Allison said.

They then spoke with Case and Young, who were inside the home, later determining that Case had a warrant with the Sheriff’s Department for domestic violence, while Young had a warrant for her arrest from a Louisiana agency. Both were taken into custody for the warrants, Allison said.

No heroin was found in the house, but through investigative techniques it was determined that Tomes received the heroin from Young and Case knowing that the detectives were on the way to the home after word was spread by 39-year-old Pete Stanfield of 32 Liberty Road and 52-year-old Lisa Shoemake of 218 Richardson Road, Allison said.

Case and Young were arrested for conspiring to tamper with physical evidence and their respective warrants, while Shoemake and Tomes were arrested for conspiring to tamper with physical evidence, Allison said. Stanfield was not at the scene, but a warrant for his arrest has been issued for tampering with physical evidence, Allison said.
