Hattiesburg’s Tigers wasted no time showing the Blue Devils that the team is well on its way to the playoffs.

“That’s a great football team over there, we were outmatched from the get go,” Blue Devils Head Coach Larry Dolan said at the conclusion of Friday’s game. “They’re going to be in the South State Championship.”

The game started with a completed pass from Tiger quarterback Jarod Conner to wide receiver D’andre Humbles that brought the ball 61 yards to the gates of the Blue Devil’s end zone. Two plays later, Tigers runningback Fabian Franklin crossed the line, putting points on the board with 11:14 left in the first quarter.

That first possession by the Tigers was just a preview of things to come the rest of the game that ended with a Tigers’ 56-6 win against the Blue Devils.

The Blue Devils’ score did not come until the end of the matchup, with 45 seconds left in game when fullback Clay Spiers drove the ball for inches to put the team on the board.

The rest of the game was a Tigers’ showcase.

Conner would score three more times on the night, an eight yard run in the first quarter, a short jaunt to the end zone in the second and a completed pass to Humbles in the second that brought the ball 25 yards down the field for the touchdown.

Tigers’ running back Drexlan Allen scored in the third quarter when he carried the ball 28 yards, while running back Jamal Donaldson would tack on two scores, one for 37 yards in the fourth quarter and his last was a stunning nearly 80 yard punt return to the end zone with less than 30 seconds left in the game right after the Devils put points on the board.

The Tigers’ kicker, Kendyll Terrell, made six of her seven extra point attempts. The missing points were picked up when Raykell Duckswroth used a fake out play to carry the ball to the end zone late in the game for a two point conversion.

Dolan is not giving up on his team earning a win this season, and feels next week might be that chance.

“We just got to bounce back in next week’s ball game. I think this is the best team on our schedule, including Picayune,” referring to the Tigers. “We just got to get healthy and see if we can go and maybe get (a win) in West Harrison next week.”

The Blue Devils will travel to Gulfport to face West Harrison, while Hattiesburg will travel to Waynesboro to play Wayne County.
