Two cases recently worked by the Pearl River County Sheriff’s Department, one involving a routine stop, the other an anonymous tip, led to the arrest of two suspects for drug related offenses.

The traffic stop was conducted on Sept. 6, after a narcotics investigator on patrol saw a vehicle being driven in a careless manner, said Sheriff David Allison.

During the stop, the officer spoke with the driver, 54-year-old Arthur J. Creed, of 45 Darby Lane, Carriere. A search of the vehicle was conducted, where the officer found a container of Xanax pills in the back seat and oxycodone pills in the glove compartment. While conducting a roadside interview with Creed, the investigator determined the medication was allegedly going to be distributed, Allison said.

Creed was arrested for a felony count of possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute and a misdemeanor count of possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute.

On Sept. 15, deputies received information that 35-year-old Thomas Young of 405 North Eighth St., Lumberton, was going to travel to Pearl River County with an amount of methamphetamine in order to sell it to a resident, Allison said.

The deputy checked Young’s record, finding he had an outstanding warrant with the Pearl River County Sheriff’s Department for no driver’s license.

Using a description of the vehicle Young would be driving, deputies set up at a location on Highway 11 near Poplarville. When they saw Young’s vehicle, a stop was conducted. Young was taken into custody on the warrant, and a search of his vehicle found the methamphetamine described in the tip. He was arrested for the no driver’s license warrant and for possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute, Allison said.
