PRC to recognize local heroes during “Hero Night” Friday

When attending this week’s home Pearl River Central football game, spectators will see the Blue Devils like they’ve never seen them before.

Prior to the game, the football team and School District will recognize local military personnel and first responders during the inaugural Hero Night.

“I wanted to do something that isn’t all about us or all about football and give back to those that made all the sacrifices to serve our community and country,” PRC Football Head Coach Larry Dolan said. “It’s another event with the purpose of bringing the community together.”

In honor of those local heroes, the PRC football team will wear camouflage jerseys during the game and will be involved in the Hero Night ceremony, along with the school’s NJROTC and cheerleaders.

Dolan said local first responders and military personnel are invited to participate in the ceremony and are asked to meet by the flag pole prior to the opening ceremony, which kicks off at 6:30 p.m.

“These heroes deserve to be in the spotlight,” Dolan said.

With a military background, Dolan said it’s important that the community understand the sacrifices the heroes made to better the local communities and country. Once he thought of the idea to pursue an event like Hero Night, Dolan didn’t hesitate.

“It’s important to give back, especially to these everyday heroes,” Dolan said.

The event will take place at the PRC football stadium prior to the Blue Devils’ district bout against Long Beach. For more information, contact Larry Dolan by calling Pearl River Central High School.
