Friends of Boley to cut a clear path down Hobolochitto Saturday

Pearl River County residents are invited to participate in a back to basics cleanup event by the Friends of Boley.

The event will take place Saturday, and will require the use of small personal boats by any volunteers. Friends of Boley member Derek Turnage said the aim of this Saturday’s event is to ensure there is a clean path from the bridge on Highway 43 North down to Long Bridge on Beech Street. That means the effort will focus on clearing a path down the creek and will require the use of small personal watercraft,  due to the low water level of the creek, and personal chainsaws. Turnage said anyone with a small personal watercraft who does not have a chainsaw can help with moving logs and other debris. Volunteers should expect to have to pull their boat over obstacles. Turnage said this effort is in response to reports that debris has built back up along the creek.

This event will be a preparatory effort to prepare for a Renew Our Rivers cleanup event tentatively planned for the spring, he said. The plan is to stage up at 6:30 a.m. and put in the water at 8 a.m.
