Four suspects were arrested for various offenses after undercover narcotics detectives with the Picayune Police Department looked into suspicious behavior occurring outside of a local business earlier this month. .

According to a press release from the department, undercover detectives sitting in an unmarked car outside a local gas station saw four occupants of another vehicle acting suspiciously on Sept. 20.

When the detectives approached the vehicle, they saw a rear passenger of the vehicle, identified as Akinsola Lorenzo Berry, 38, of 402 S. Blanks Ave., holding a digital scale and a bag containing a substance suspected to be methamphetamine.

At that point the detectives identified themselves as law officers and Berry fled on foot carrying an open knife, prompting a chase that ended with Berry being tazed twice before he fell to the ground.

During the pursuit, Berry allegedly threw a black bag and a glass pipe in the air, the release states.

The bag and pipe were later recovered, and the detectives noted the pipe had a burnt white residue.

After falling to the ground, Berry allegedly attempted to strike the detectives with his feet and fists. Once he was disarmed of the knife, Berry was taken into custody.

The black bag was recovered, which contained the alleged narcotic and some paraphernalia, the release states.

While one detective stayed with Berry, the second went back to the vehicle to speak with the three other occupants of the car, identified as 58-year-old Jerry Anthony Marshall of 7 Darby Lane, Carriere, 28-year-old Lisa Ann Tastet of 3307 Jackson Landing Rd., and 38-year-old Salina Marie Craft of 40 Checkered Mitchell Rd., the release states.

All three occupants were asked to exit the vehicle, but did not comply, prompting the detective to remove them from the vehicle before placing them into custody.

A search of the vehicle found a digital scale with a crystal like substance on the rear passenger side floorboard, several empty plastic bags and a glass pipe.

None of the occupants of the vehicle claimed ownership of the contraband, the release states.

Investigative techniques determined that Tastet and Marshall were allegedly purchasing methamphetamine from Berry.

Berry was arrested for possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute within 1,500 feet of a school or church, resisting arrest by fleeing and possession of paraphernalia.

Marshall and Tastet were arrested for conspiracy to commit a felony, disorderly conduct failure to comply and possession of paraphernalia.

Craft was arrested for disorderly conduct failure to comply.
