County updates promotional videos

Videos promoting Pearl River County were recently updated by a New York communications firm, at no cost to the county.
County Administrator Adrain Lumpkin said the firm, CGI Communications, Inc., contacted the county to produce the videos for the county about seven years ago.
Rather than charging the county to produce the videos, CGI sold advertising, he said.
Last year, CGI contacted the county again, asking to update the videos, again at no cost to the taxpayers, Lumpkin said.
The videos were filmed this spring and recently uploaded to the county’s website.
“I think they’re good quality videos,” Lumpkin said.
The new updates feature some of the county’s supervisors and other community leaders, as well as various areas of the county.
Poplarville opted to film its own video, hiring local filmmaker Frank Ladner, who debuted the video during a Board of Aldermen meeting this week.
In response to criticism that the county didn’t hire local filmmakers, Lumpkin said whether or not a local company made the videos, the county didn’t spend tax money on them.
“I’m just glad we got something of good quality,” Lumpkin said.
Anyone interested in visiting or moving to the county can get an idea of what the county has to offer by watching them, he said.
The videos are available for viewing by clicking on the “video tour of Pearl River County” icon on the right side bar of the county’s website, www.pearlrivercounty.net.
Poplarville’s video can also be found on the City of Poplarville’s Facebook page.
The Board also approved a county logo that is now included on official letterheads and advertisements, Lumpkin said.
JuJu’s Signs and Tees, designed the logo at a cost of $100, he said.
Lumpkin said the county also plans to update the website to include more information about county services in an easy to find format.
These videos, logos and redesigns are part of the county’s effort to market the area to entice more people to visit or live in Pearl River County, he said.
