A cause of death has been established in the death of a woman who was found in a pond earlier this week.
Monday morning, investigators with the Pearl River County Sheriff’s Department responded to Bennett Apartment Road in Nicholson in reference to a deceased woman floating in a nearby pond.
Investigation into the call eventually identified the woman as 43-year-old Jodi Wilson, of 15 Bennett Apartment Road, according to previous coverage.
An autopsy performed by the state medical examiner’s office this week determined Wilson died as a result of blunt force trauma and/or drowning, said Chief Deputy Shane Tucker. Her death is now ruled as a homicide.
No arrests have been made at this time, but Tucker said the case is still under investigation.
This is not the first unusual death to occur in that area. Previous coverage states that on April 21, of this year, 52-year-old Bruce “Balogna” Wilson Lee Jr., was fatally struck by a train while lying between the tracks near Section Line Road. When the conductor sounded the horn several times Lee did not move from the tracks, the story states.
Last year, on Aug. 16, 63-year-old Billy Gipson of Picayune was struck by a fire truck while walking in the lane of traffic along Highway 11, within the same area of the other two deaths.
Previous coverage states the firefighter operating the truck had just worked a structure fire in the Nicholson area and was returning to the station when the truck struck Gipson. The night of the accident it was dark and raining heavily, the story states.
