Qualifying candidates for District 108 election

Three candidates qualified with the Mississippi Secretary of State’s office before the deadline on Monday to run for the open Mississippi House of Representatives District 108 seat.
Qualified candidates are, in alphabetical order, Jerry W. Frazier, Tavish Cordero Kelly and Stacey Hobgood Wilkes. They will campaign until the special election on July 25.
District 108 covers most of the city limits of Picayune, Nicholson, parts of Carriere on either side of Interstate-59 and the area surrounding Highway 43 North toward Bogalusa. Residents can confirm their House district by looking under the third column, “REP” on their Mississippi Voter Registration Card.
If necessary, a runoff election is scheduled for August 15.
Mark Formby, who served six terms in that office and was last elected in 2015, vacated the District 108 seat in April after being appointed to the Worker’s Compensation Commission.
Because this is a special election, the chosen candidate will serve out the rest of Formby’s term through 2020.
In order to vote in the election, residents must register at least 30 days prior to the election. Anyone who does not vote in the primary can still vote in the runoff election, if one is required.
For information on absentee voting and affidavits, contact the Pearl River County Circuit Clerk’s Office at 601-403-2328.
