NASA is reaching out to local small businesses June 6 to teach the owners about selling their goods and services to various NASA facilities and their prime contractors in an effort to support low performing businesses.
Tuesday is NASA Industry Day and according to the agency’s website, NASA instituted the Small Business Improvement Plan in the fiscal year of 2014-15, in conjunction with a request from the White House, to increase outreach in the following low-performing socioeconomic areas: service-disabled, veteran-owned, women-owned and historically underutilized businesses.
The event is open to any business owner interested in selling their goods and services to the following NASA facilities: Stennis Space Center, Johnson Space Center, Kennedy Space Center, Marshall Space Flight Center, NASA Shared Services, various NASA Prime Contractors, procurement technical assistance centers from Alabama, Louisiana and Mississippi and the U.S. Small Business Administration, a NASA release states.
During the event, a small business specialist, technical advisor, office of the chief technologist representative and/or a technical advisor will be in attendance to assist participants in learning how to build a rapport with a specific center.
At the NASA Industry Day event, participants will be able to network with leaders within those specific NASA facilities, as well as one another, to expand their small business’ outreach in the community.
Preregistration and payment is required to attend the event and can be completed by visiting mscpc.com/even/nasa-industry-day/ and clicking on the registration link. Cost is $20 per person.
The event will take place at the Lyman Community Center located at 13742 Highway 49 in Gulfport. For those who wish to reserve a hotel room, NASA is offering a discounted rate for event attendees at the Comfort Inn & Suites Crystal Inn Sportsplex located at 9379 Canal Road in Gulfport. To get the discount, call the front desk at 228-822-9600 and ask for the NASA rate.
