Adopt a cat for your home

Just about everyone cares for some kind of pet. It might be a fish, dog or cat, depending on your preference.

In this world, there are four kinds of people when it comes to pet ownership; those without pets, cat owners, dog owners and people who have a variety of pets.

I fall into the cat owner category. But, being the owner of two cats does not mean I don’t like dogs, I just lack the time and space to properly care for a canine friend.

Cats are known to be low-maintenance pets. Just provide them with love, shelter, food, water, give them some toys to play with and keep their litter box clean and you have a happy cat.

If you’ve been on the fence about adopting a cat, this month you can bring home a new cat at the low cost of $10 from the Pearl River County SPCA.

Even though this discount only applies to cats 4-months-old or older, consider the fact that you won’t have to litter train an older cat.

The reason the local shelter is offering this discount is to free up space in the facility for the kitten season, when so many Pearl River County residents bring their unwanted litters into the SPCA.

Everyone loves little animals, but so many are born each year that many homes are overwhelmed, leading to the dumping of unwanted pets at the shelter, or worse yet, the roadside.

If you have ever thought of adopting a cat, now is a great time to do so. And if you ever thought about adopting a kitten and a cat at the same time, now is also the opportune chance.

A secondary point of this column is to remind all pet owners to have their furry companions spayed or neutered. By having this simple procedure done now instead of later, your family will have one less litter to find homes for.
