Tony Smith of Poplarville announces his intention of seeking the office of Poplarville Alderman.
Smith attended Pearl River Community College and received his B.S. from the University of Southern Mississippi.
Tony is currently serving on the Mississippi Hospitality & Restaurant Board and is a member of the Poplarville Chamber of Commerce, Greater Area Picayune Chamber of Commerce and Main Street Association. Smith also served in the Mississippi State Senate representing the citizens of District 47 from 2011 to 2016.
Smith, owner of Stonewall’s BBQ & Catering, says he is looking to lead our city in a new positive direction. “As a small business owner, I know how difficult it is to make payroll, pay taxes and be competitive in today’s market place,” said Smith.
“This mindset needs to be utilized in how we operate our city government. We cannot tax our way into economic prosperity. We must look at how we can eliminate any wasteful spending and create an atmosphere that encourages businesses and people to locate here.” Smith also said, “I am looking forward to building a strong working relationship with Pearl River Community College and no longer allow Highway 11 be a dividing line. The success of PRCC is also success for the city of Poplarville.”
He is married to the former Angie Traylor, daughter of Wendell and Doris Traylor of Poplarville. Tony and Angie have three daughters, Lauren, Alexis, Addison; a son-in-law, Evan Steil; and two grandchildren.
“I have been a small business owner for over 30 years and I understand the importance of smaller government, less taxes and a positive business environment.
Let’s be a city that asks ‘Why not?’ instead of ‘Why?’ This is why I am asking you to vote for me as Poplarville Alderman in the upcoming city election on June 6th.”
