Picayune Pediatrics is growing

For the past year Picayune Pediatrics has provided medical care to the young people of Pearl River County.
Picayune Pediatrics is owned and operated by Betty Jo Alexander. She is a pediatric nurse practitioner whose favorite part of operating the business is caring for children that she considers part of her family.
Alexander has more than 12 years of pediatric nursing experience and has worked in doctor’s offices and pediatric clinics in the Picayune area.
She decided to open her own business a year ago when the current location became available. She said opening the business took a big leap of faith that has been a blessing.
Her business offers care to children from birth to 21-years-of age.
Picayune Pediatrics offers a well baby waiting room for patients who only need a checkup. That separation keeps them away from other children who may be sick. One of the most popular items in the waiting room is the Lego table, built by Gary Miller. Alexander’s business also offers a dedicated room to administer allergy shots to cut down on wait time.
Picayune Pediatrics offers immunizations and can treat ADHD and cystic fibrosis.
Alexander also has access to a wide range of pediatric specialists who can help when needed.
“I love caring for children, it’s rewarding,” Alexander said.
The business currently employs six people, five of which are full time. But next month a new face will join the staff to help with the growing clientele. Jennifer Cacioppo, family nurse practitioner, will join the staff on June 5 and help the business cater to walk-ins as well as appointments.
The business is located at 517 Fifth Ave. and is open Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Tuesday and Thursday from 8 a.m. to noon.
Appointments can be made by calling 601-799-5865.
