The Lady Tide walked into Monday’s South State Championship up one game in a best-of-three series against Long Beach. After losing by a hair, 6-5, in game two the same night, Picayune gathered themselves to beat Long Beach in dramatic fashion. Long Beach came back in the latter innings, tying the game 4-4 in the top of the seventh inning, giving the Lady Tide a chance to take home the win, which they did.

With the game-winning runner on third base, Alyssa Pinero bought her team a ticket to Jackson with a hit into the outfield, turning the Lady Tide into South State Champions.

Full coverage of the game will be featured in Wednesday’s edition of the Item.
