Traveling into the United States from another country has now become be a bit more boring.

While it’s still currently legal to bring tablets, portable DVD players and gaming devices on a flight while traveling between destinations within this country, flights originating from a number of foreign nations to the U.S. will force passengers to check those devices so they won’t be in the cabin of the plane. 

Basically, unless it’s a cellphone, you can’t bring it on the plane as a carry on, as per recent rules enacted earlier this year by the Trump administration.

Those rules were expanded to include flights out of the United Kingdom to the U.S. this week.

The point of the regulations is to prevent bombs from being brought on a flight because current screening technology is unable to detect a bomb in these devices.

The change makes sense, especially in the current worldwide climate where terrorist attacks appear to be increasing.

But that doesn’t mean a lot of people traveling across the expanse of a large ocean will be happy about it.

So far, I’ve only had the chance to take a flight across the continental United States.

But no matter the destination, you can expect to be cooped up in the cabin of an airplane for at least a couple of hours, longer if your flight is across the big ponds.

So, being able to bring a form of entertainment can make that time go by more quickly. What this means to these international travelers is their flights will force them to find more creative ways to pass the time.

I’m a bit torn by the new rules.

Again, they were established for the protection of passengers, but it seems like it wouldn’t be very hard to find a way to scan all electronic devices for the presence of a bomb, given the right technology, and thereby allow people to watch a movie or play a game while traveling abroad.
