Several dangerous curves along Highway 43 North are being straightened through a project now underway by the Mississippi Department of Transportation.
MDOT Assistant District Engineer for District Six Gabe Faggard said the project will remove dangerous curves in three sections of the road.
The first site will be near Wheat’s Curve. Instead of the road taking its current route near the intersection of Walkiah Bluff Road and Burnt Bridge Road, it will curve north of the existing location near the Dollar General. An access road will provide entry to the current intersection, Faggard said.
A second site is located in the Cybur community at the intersection of Pine Grove Road. The existing S curve will be eliminated through realignment work. Faggard said clearing of the site is already underway.
The third site is close to the intersection of Highway 26, near Ramsay Hall Road.
All told, 12,700 feet of roadway will be involved in the work. Faggard said the $4.88 million project was awarded to Huey Stockstill Inc. and has a projected completion date of spring or summer of 2018.
