The Senior Center of South Pearl County and the Henleyfield Volunteer Fire Department are currently holding separate raffles to benefit their respective organizations.
During the Senior Center raffle participants have multiple chances to win cash prizes during the month of May. If tickets are purchased before May 1, then the participant has 31 potential chances to win, said Administrative Assistant Mandy Boudreaux.
Tickets for the raffle are available at the Senior Center for $10 per ticket, or three for $25. Entries will be drawn each day during the month of May. While tickets will still be sold during that month, those with tickets at the beginning of the month will have the most chances.
Winning tickets drawn on weekdays will be worth $30. Winning tickets drawn on Saturday or Sunday will be worth $50. And on May 30, Memorial Day, that winning ticket will be worth $500. Drawings will take place at noon each day during May at the center.
All proceeds from the raffle will go into the Senior Center’s general fund to help cover operations of the facility.
The Henleyfield Volunteer Fire Department is also holding a raffle. There are a total of 12 prizes in this raffle, ranging from firearms to cash. Captain Daryl Smith said tickets are available for $5 each or five for $20. Twelve prizes will be awarded at random, and there is the potential for participants to win more than one prize.
Prizes include a Browning 30-06 rifle with Nikon ProStaff scope, Browning 20 gauge pump action shotgun, Henry Silver Boy .22 magnum rifle, Dalton AR-15, Barnett Bonecrusher 2.0 crossbow, Big Green Egg cooker, Yeti Tundra 65 cooler, Stihl pole saw, Roomba 650 Robotic vacuum cleaner, Pampered Chef 5 piece cookware set, Fit Bit Blaze and $500 cash.
The funds raised in the raffle will help the department defray the costs associated with the construction of a new fire station on Rock Ranch Road and the purchase of a new fire truck for that station, Smith said. He estimates the department spent $120,000 to build the station and $250,000 to purchase the new fire truck.
Tickets can be purchased by calling Smith at 601-273-1797, sending the department a message via Facebook, or by attending the upcoming fish fry set for Saturday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.. Smith said the fish fry will be held at the fire station on Highway 43 North, and will offer fish plates for $12, or chicken plates for $10.
The drawing for this raffle will be held on Oct. 28.
Department representatives are also planning an open house and ribbon cutting for the new station to take place in August. Additional details will follow.
