Estimates released by the United Census Bureau in March show that the population in Pearl River County has remained largely steady during the past six years while surrounding areas have seen steady growth.
In 2010, the bureau estimated the population in this county to be 55,747, which was the highest estimate during the following six years.
During the following years leading up to 2016, the population estimates fluctuated from a low of 54,943 in 2013 to 2016’s estimate of 55,310.
The year before in 2015, the population was estimated to be 55,163.
This shows that while slight fluctuations occurred each year, the population in Pearl River County has remained largely unchanged over the past six years.
In contrast, neighboring Hancock County’s population has steadily increased over that same timeframe to a high of 46,791 in 2016. In 2010 that county’s population was estimated to be 44,014. There were no dips in the population estimates for Hancock County; instead each year the population grew by an average of 500 people.
The same thing occurred in neighboring St. Tammany Parish in Louisiana. Population estimates for 2010 reported 233,737 people and that figure grew each year. By 2016 the population of the neighboring parish was estimated to be 253,602.
