Pending development is still good for small town charm

The recent posting of a sign about a new development in Poplarville has sparked a lot of excitement.

While a final plan may be distant, the sign erected on the old Movie Star property alerts the residents of Poplarville to expect a new supermarket and fuel center; providing fuel for your body and fuel for your car.

The new development will hopefully spur a series of other vendors to come to the area.

That corner lot is a prime location in Poplarville, right across the street from Pearl River Community College and just a short distance from the residential area along West North Street.

In my experience, one development is usually followed by another.

I may be used to living in larger cities, but the same trend happens everywhere.

The Mississippi Secretary of State’s office recently re-released a new website called Y’all Business intended to give businesses a closer look at marketing data for their area.

The new, free website provides insight into various economic development factors including workforce development programs, broadband connectivity, municipal wastewater facilities and more.

It also provides information about business groups, likes restaurants, so potential investors can see the surrounding competition, population or average income.

With access to this data economic development could be spurred across the state, especially right here in Pearl River County.

While there’s nothing wrong with being a small town, with all the charm and peacefulness, new developments would bring even more amenities to our county.
